My Festive Fall Porch
Now that the temps are FINALLY starting to cool off a bit here in LA, I am happy to report that my front porch is festively decked out for the Fall season!
Over my birthday weekend, G took me to Armstrong Garden Center and told me to “go for it”. What a man. I didn't need to hear that twice and made a mad dash for the pumpkins and Chrysanthemums — my two preferred staples when decorating for Fall. My favorite pumpkins are the Fantasy variety: they have such a unique shape and color to them usually, and bring a whimsical and fun feel to any stairway or porch. Another great thing is that they’re usually stackable! I love the image of stacking smaller pumpkins on top of each other for the same whimsical effect. When selecting my pumpkins, I try to envision the space and gather a combination of sizes and colors that compliment each other. Usually, this means at least one big pumpkin, a couple medium-sized pumpkins of a different color & shape, and then a handful of little pumpkins of different colors.
From there, I moved on to the mums. I wanted one big pot and a smaller one of a different color for the steps, as well as a few other bundles for a planter by my herbs. At the garden center, they had beautiful, full hanging pots of mums of all different colors. I decided to go with the deep purple color, as it was so unique! I just cut the hanging part from the pot and we were golden. I also bought a smaller mum plant in yellow, and then even smaller ones in a deep crimson (for the planter). While it isn’t necessary to deviate from one color, I enjoy seeing a multitude of colors on my front porch! From my colorful mums, orange & white pumpkins, orange & red marigolds still in my hanging planters, and greenery from herbs, succulents, and my dried magnolia wreath on the front door, I am able to bring together a complimentary palette for the Fall season.
These easy updates to my front porch bring so much happiness and delight every time I come to & from my home. Especially for renters like me who can’t make big changes to the exterior of your home, these are great ideas on how to give your space your own personal flair! Tell me in the comments below how you decorate your exterior for the holidays!
